The cavalry is a military unit that historically consisted of soldiers mounted on horseback, trained for combat and reconnaissance. They were known for their speed, mobility, and ability to quickly respond to enemy movements. While the use of horses in warfare has declined with the advent of modern technology, the term "cavalry" is still used to refer to certain specialized units within modern armed forces, such as armored or mechanized cavalry units. **

No, the Vikings did not typically use cavalry. They were known for their expertise in sailing and their use of longships for transportation and warfare. On land, they primarily relied on infantry and occasionally used horses for transportation, but they did not have a tradition of using cavalry in battle. Instead, they were known for their skilled use of axes, swords, and shields in combat. **

No, Germany no longer has a cavalry unit in its military. The last cavalry unit in the German military was disbanded in 1919 after World War I. Since then, the German military has transitioned to modern mechanized and armored units, leaving behind traditional cavalry forces. **

The cavalry was ineffective in World War II due to several reasons. Firstly, the development of modern warfare, including the widespread use of tanks, artillery, and aircraft, made traditional cavalry tactics obsolete. Additionally, the difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions in many theaters of the war made it challenging for cavalry units to maneuver effectively. Furthermore, the increasing mechanization of the military meant that cavalry units were often outmatched in terms of speed and firepower by armored and motorized units. As a result, cavalry units were largely relegated to reconnaissance and security roles rather than playing a significant combat role in World War II. **
